How to Choose the Right Cot Size for Your Home โ A Buyer's Guide
Before you buy a palm cot online in India, there are really only three decisions that matter: the size, the wood frame, and whether you want it foldable. Here's how to think through each one without overcomplicating it.
Standard size: 6ft ร 3ft
Every cot we make is a standard 6ft ร 3ft with a 2ft height โ the traditional single-cot size used across Tamil Nadu households. This comfortably fits one adult, and works well as a guest bed, a veranda/balcony cot, or a child's bed. If you need something wider, get in touch on WhatsApp before ordering and we'll quote a custom size.
Foldable or non-foldable โ which one?
This is mostly about your space and how often you'll move the cot.
- Non-foldable โ sturdier joinery since the frame is one fixed structure. Best if the cot has a permanent spot in a bedroom or veranda and won't be stored away.
- Foldable โ folds flat for storage or transport, ideal for guest use, seasonal setup, or smaller homes where floor space matters. The trade-off is a slightly more complex frame at the fold joints.
Room-fit checklist
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Doorway width | A 3ft-wide frame needs a doorway wide enough to carry it through, especially non-foldable models. |
| Floor clearance around the cot | Leave at least 1.5ft on the access side for getting in and out comfortably. |
| Storage plan (if foldable) | Know where it'll fold away to before it arrives โ under a bed, against a wall, or in a store room. |
| Delivery access | Ground floor vs upper floor with no lift can affect delivery โ mention this when you order. |
Wood frame โ a quick note
All our frames are solid teak or Poovarasam wood, not engineered board. We've written a full comparison of the two if you want the details: Teak vs Poovarasam Wood.
